EverCharge: How to Use |
The EverCharge represents an outstanding example of how new technology can be used to help combat some of our environmental problems. If we can continue to be aware of these environmental issues and technology keeps providing us viable environmentally friendly alternative products, it is obvious which option we as consumers will take. It is kind of a "if there is a way, there is a will" mentality which we are all looking to exercise to preserve our future.
The EverCharge is new technology and a work in progress. We are consistently working to find ways to improve the technology to get even better results. The EverCharge allows you to charge 4 batteries at a time in their individual drive bays. Since these bays are independently controlled and monitored by the microprocessor you are not restricted to charging just one size of battery at a time. If you need 2 AAA and 2 C or D sized or any combination the EverCharge will treat each battery individually and charge each one according to its current discharge level. This is good because even 2 batteries you have just taken out of the same product for recharging will inevitably be a different discharge levels.
The important thing to remember is you can charge different sizes of the sample battery type or chemistry but you cannot charge batteries of different chemistries. By this we mean you cannot charge an alkaline cell and a Ni-Cd battery at the same time in the EverCharge. The EverCharge has 3 different slide toggle settings, Ni-Cd, Ni-MH and Alkaline. Each battery chemistry has very specific charging needs, which the EverChargehas been designed and programmed to deliver the optimum charge voltage, current and duration for each battery chemistry.
The good news if you don’t know what type of battery you have, just look at the writing on the battery, usually near the top (+) of the battery and there you will find written Ni-MH or Ni-Cd or Alkaline. Then just select the slide setting on the EverCharge to match the same setting as your batteries.

Recharging or Reconditioning Alkaline Cells |
As a note: when you look at the alkaline batteries you will see a note from the manufacturer saying something to the effect. “Do Not recharge, dispose of in fire or insert improperly”. Don’t panic. Although the last 2 statements are valid and technically the Do not recharge is as well, using a regular battery charger. The EverCharge is no ordinary battery charger and is fully capable of recharging or more correctly reconditioning alkaline batteries safely. It uses a pulsed charge rate with a feedback control system when reconditioning alkaline cells.
Also for maximum recharging or reconditioning of alkaline cells it is best to leave them in the charger for a full 24 hours. Even though the charge light will go green before 24 hours, that time depending on how discharged the alkaline cell is. This is because the EverCharge has reconditioned the alkaline cell to its 1.5 volt operating current. However, we have found that leaving the alkaline cell a full 24 hours (the EverCharge switches to trickle charge after the charge light goes green) more deeply reconditions the alkaline cell and approaches its original capacity. Each subsequent recharge will inevitably lose some capacity but this is the case with all batteries and is unavoidable. How many times the cell can be reconditioned depends on the quality of the battery but the wireless mouse and keyboard used to compose this information have been using the same AAA and AA alkaline batteries for over 1 year when typically I would have to replace the batteries at least every 3 month . That is pretty darn good, I saved the money and the land fill site didn’t inherit at least 10 batteries. Enough said.

EverCharge and Alkaline 9 Volt Prismatic Batteries |
Although in theory the EverCharge can recondition alkaline 9 volt prismatic batteries, in practice this is not the case and we recommend that you DO NOT use the EverCharge for alkaline 9 volt batteries.
The problem with reconditioning 9 volt batteries is one that is almost impossible to overcome. A 9 volt battery is really 6 X 1.5 volt alkaline cells wired in series to increase their combined voltage to 9 volts. However, each 1.5 volt cell is unique and has a different level of charge or discharge. When trying to recondition the individual cells, all that needs to happen to trick the EverCharge is to have one of the cells charge faster than the others or if one of the cells reverses it will prevent the other cells from being able to be reconditioned. For this reason we advise against trying to recondition alkaline 9 volt prismatic batteries. In practice this is an exercise in futility because it is very likely that one cell out of the 6 will charge at a different rate or reverse and prevent the EverCharge from properly reconditioning the battery.
